The DNR is looking for some help in locating duck nests at Theresa Marsh. They’d like to search planted prairie, hay fields, reed canary grass and sedge lowlands for nesting mallard, teal, and possibly other grassland birds.
The DNR wildlife biologist at Theresa hopes to identify factors (plant composition, slope, proximity to water, effect of forest stands) that influence nest site selection and nest survival, so we can improve future management.
Do you know of anyone near Theresa (or anyone willing to travel) who could help with the survey? This could be done with UTVs and a rope/chain between them or with people walking in a line, according to the biologist setting up the plan. They’re looking for 10-15 volunteers, for one or two days.
