A few updates on the WWA Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) of hunters – specifically waterfowl hunters.
Mark your calendar for the evening of Thursday, August 4th. In partnership with WDNR and NWTF, WWA will be holding a Learn To Hunt (LTH) and Mentor Training Seminar. While all the specifics of time and location in southeastern Wisconsin are still being worked out, I wanted to use the July WWA Newsletter to give you a heads up so those interested can “save the date”. The workshop will be a relaxed environment (beverages and light snacks) with information to break down the process of holding a LTH event and/or how to become more involved with teaching novice hunters the process of waterfowl hunting.
I know it can be an overwhelming feeling to think about mentoring or hosting a LTH event. This August 4th evening session will reduce those feelings allowing you to take the next step in developing a future waterfowl hunter.
The seminar will also hit on new information like:
- Research showing new hunters require multiple contacts with an experienced hunter before they have the confidence to continue hunting on their own.
- The fastest growing age group interested in hunting are young adults, people interested in field to table foods and females.
Watch WWA social media (facebook.com/wisducks), our August WWA Newsletter or contact me for more details about the seminar. I’m hopeful this will be the first of these type of WWA R3 focused events. I can be contacted at c217tazman@gmail.com or 920-379-1704.
If R3 is more than a casual interest for you, the WDNR and Pheasants Forever recently posted for the hiring of two positions focused on:
- DNR Archery Education Program Specialist – this is a dual Limited Term Employee (LTE) position that will provide year-round, full-time work. This position will coordinate, support and promote statewide archery programs and events… how cool is that! Details on the position can be found at Archery Education Program Specialist (wi.gov) . Please share widely with interested candidates. The deadline to apply is July 17. Questions can be directed to me.
- Pheasants Forever R3 & Outreach Coordinator – see the attached file here for more details. Work from home (prefer close to Madison). Deadline to apply is July 14. Questions can be directed to Marty Moses, Wisconsin State Coordinator atmmoses@pheasantsforever.org or 608-712-8625.
