The NRB considered the long-awaited Wisconsin Waterfowl Management Plan last week and adopted it unanimously, extending kudos to the DNR, calling it “the best such plan they’ve seen come before them.”  Nicely done by lead author Taylor Finger (DNR’s Migratory Game Bird Ecologist)!   Bruce Urben was WWA’s representative to the Migratory Bird Committee, which helped Taylor (a regular contributor to this newsletter) develop the comprehensive plan to improve state-wide waterfowling over the next 10 years.  We hope this will not be a dust-collector, but will truly coordinate and help guide waterfowling interested groups, and especially bring a focus to the DNR’s own efforts.

State-level WWA committees will be reviewing the finalized plan over the next month to incorporate appropriate activities into our own 2020 Action Plans.  And we will be keeping an eye on overall state progress towards the plan’s specific measurable goals and weighing in if it seems there is not enough attention being paid.  In next month’s e-newsletter, together with the DNR, we will break down the plan into digestible bites and share with you what we think it means to the future of WIWaterfowling.
