Wales, WI. — The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association (WWA) announced that Wisconsin State Representative Paul Tittl (R–Manitowoc) has been named the organization’s Policymaker of the Year, recognizing his leadership and commitment to advancing a responsible, science‑based sandhill crane hunting framework in the state.
Rep. Tittl has been a leading voice in the effort to align Wisconsin with the 18 other states that already manage sustainable sandhill crane hunts under federal guidelines. His work has focused on ensuring that any proposed season is grounded in sound wildlife science, respects federal conservation safeguards, and reflects the interests of farmers, hunters, and conservationists alike.
“Rep. Tittl has demonstrated a clear commitment to responsible wildlife management and to listening to the people most affected by growing crane populations,” said WWA Executive Director Brad Heidel. “His leadership has helped move the conversation from controversy to collaboration, and we are proud to recognize his efforts with this award.”
Sandhill crane populations in Wisconsin have grown significantly over the past several decades, leading to increased crop damage for farmers and renewed interest in a regulated hunting season. Rep. Tittl has worked closely with stakeholders to promote a management approach that balances ecological sustainability with practical, on‑the‑ground needs.
WWA’s Policymaker of the Year award is presented to a public official who demonstrates exceptional leadership in advancing conservation, habitat protection, and responsible wildlife policy in Wisconsin.
