Private Land Restorations

Landowners seeking to improve their wetlands have a partner in WWA.

WWA ecologists will review the property, and then help identify realistic project goals.  We can  develop a design, and assist with permitting through local, state and federal authorities.

If the project is a good fit, we may bring funding to the project from various grant sources.  We expect the landowner to have some “skin in the game” and maintain the property after the restoration.

Public access is NOT a requirement for this program. But the landowner must commit that the work will not be undone in the next decade.

Private Lands

Federal Programs to help private lands.

  • USFWS ‘Partners’ program. WWA collaborates with the US Fish and Wildlife Service  on their “Partners for Fish and Wildlife” program that provides restoration planning services and possibly some funding for wetland and upland restorations on private land.
  • Former agricultural land programs: WWA also evaluates private lands that are enrolled in conservation programs with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help them better perform for wildlife.
