The DNR incorporates public input on waterfowl season decisions through the Migratory Game Bird Committee. As the largest organization to represent Wisconsin duck hunter interests, WWA brings an outsized voice to these discussions, informed by extensive member surveys on the questions under consideration.
The DNR Migratory Game Bird Committee:
- establishes season structure and dates
- prioritizes distribution of state Waterfowl Stamp funds
- develops long-term strategies to benefit Wisconsin waterfowl, wetlands and duck hunters.
Cascading plans. Migratory game birds like waterfowl are managed continentally by Canada, Mexico and the US. A series of cascading plans provide strategies that guide lower geographic tiers–like the Mississippi flyway and states. Wisconsin then develops state-based approaches. Those plans are linked below.
