As duck hunters, we know that better habitat leads to better hunts, and these new projects at Ertmer GHRA and White River Marsh are set to deliver just that.

These wetland restoration efforts will improve duck production on public lands by creating shallow-water wetlands that warm early in the spring. These wetlands provide critical food sources for migrating and nesting ducks like blue-winged teal and mallards. With tallgrass prairie nearby providing excellent nesting cover, this is a win for local bird production and long-term hunting opportunities.

Come migration, these new wetlands will also serve as vital resting spots for waterfowl, giving us more birds in the sky and more action in the blind.

Beyond ducks, this work benefits other wetland wildlife, including species like the American bittern and Blanding’s turtle, making your time afield richer in every way.

Project Funding: These projects are made possible with support from the Wisconsin Waterfowl Stamp Fund ($20,000) and partner contributions ($2,000), for a total investment of $22,000 in habitat improvements that benefits hunters like you.

Recent restoration projects: Our goal is to complete significant public land projects that restore habitat on publicly accessible lands, enhancing spring nesting success and fall hunting opportunities. We will be releasing additional reports to keep you informed about our efforts to make landscape-level wetland improvements.
