Dr. Sarah Orlofske, Associate Professor at UW-Stevens Point, was recently recognized with the Henry Baldwin Ward Medal by the American Society of Parasitologists (ASP). The ASP Award is one of the highest honors bestowed within the field of parasitology, and Sarah is only the 6th woman to receive the award since 1959.
Her colleagues nominated Sarah for the diversity of approaches in her research, advancing the understanding of parasitology, and new insights into the critical role parasites play in freshwater wetlands. Dr. Orlofske’s work often involves Wisconsin wetlands and waterfowl specimens.
“I want to personally thank you for WWA’s support of my research program for the last several years. Our collaborations have led to rewarding new areas of research, and I couldn’t have imagined when I first returned to UWSP in 2017. I hope that by addressing research questions related to waterfowl parasitology and wetland health, we can continue to push the boundaries of knowledge of parasites.
Sarah is an active member of WWA and a member of the WWA Education Committee, and recently completed the Waterfowlers Academy with the Green Bay Chapter. Through her work with WWA she has also increased the understanding of waterfowl hunting with her UWSP students.
Congratulations to Sarah for this amazing recognition and thank you for the partnership with WWA
