Finding the Right Fit

By Bruce Ross, Executive Director

This article originally appeared in Wisconsin Waterfowl Association’s July Volunteer Newsletter edition.

Focus on the important few: I just came back from a Canadian fishing trip – the weather was nice, the fishing just so-so.  Even so, it was worth hauling the boat and gear just to spend some time on the water in a pristine environment.  As a career sailor, I’ve found that time on the water washes away a lot of accumulated mental mess, allowing me to focus on the important issues instead of the daily minutia of my inbox.

And after a week of such taking-out-the-mental-trash, I kept returning to the idea that WWA’s relevance to WIWaterfowlers should be even greater than it has been in the past. Wetlands are increasingly threatened, anti-hunting pressures are mounting, waterfowler numbers are shrinking – all to the detriment of our sport and our communities.

Many hands make light work:  So much to do… but of course I realize WWA has a strong membership, many of whom are already having a significant volunteer impact (such as the readers of this Volunteer Newsletter.)  And further (I hope), there are others who are willing – even anxious – to make their own impact on Wisconsin waterfowling.  They just need to find the right personal  “fit” with our state-wide needs.

Unique volunteer opportunities:  The re-structuring of the Board of Directors is moving forward.  And, we are beginning to identify unique volunteer opportunities that may fit you. Take a gander (see what I did there?!) through these impactful WWA opportunities that will be appearing over the next few months.  Can you see yourself doing one of these?  Or know someone who might be interested—even if they are not a WWA member currently?  Let me know at bruceross@wi.rr.com.

If any of these opportunities sound like something you’d enjoy helping out with reach out to me at bruceross@wi.rr.com or give me a call at 262-224-4949.
