… and so does WWA’s work.  It has been an interesting month – even without events, it seems like we’ve been very busy.  Committees are laying plans (read the Habitat and Education updates, here), raffles have blossomed, policy work continued on duck stamp  fees and new zone decisions, AWA work – although slowed by the DNR’s social distancing requirements – continued, we continued to work on the creation of a state-wide Waterfowlers EXPO, we brought aboard a couple of new corporate sponsors and we even had our first virtual event – a success!

2021-2025 Open Water Zone

There was some history made this week in Wisconsin waterfowling: The NRB approved a new zone for the state: The Open Water Zone – Lake Michigan’s waters greater than five hundred feet from shore (including the waters of Green Bay).  This will not take effect for another year and will continue from 2021-2025.  This recognizes a unique waterfowling opportunity that has been developing over the past thirty years with the growth of mussel beds that provide an important food source for seaducks and divers. We will publish a special edition “Open Water Newlstetter” next week to share a little bit about what makes this zone different than the rivers marshes and lakes with which most Wisconsin Hunters are familiar.

Although restriction are beginning to lift, WWA is still constrained in what events we can put on. Venues have limitations, and many people are understandably uncomfortable gathering in significant  numbers.  So, we will do our best to find a means to continue to fund the work important to WI waterfowlers.  One of those means is a virtual event that will be happening June 11th where you’ll have a chance to win a Rizzini double barrel and these other great prizes pictured at right. Find out more and get your tickets here.

As a gentle reminder, here’s what WWA uniquely brings to our state’s duck and goose hunters, and if we don’t do it, who will?  Think about it.  And as always, thanks for your support.
