I’ve recently told a couple of people that I would stack this monthly newsletter up against just about any state-based organization’s newsletter, especially given the size of the team putting it together. There’s more diverse and relevant information than any newsletter I’ve come across. Sometimes, I will admit, there’s too much information; we are considering ways to address that. But we just can’t help but give you access to the information we find valuable so that you can pick and choose what’s of interest to you. I’d be interested in your opinion on this.

And this New Year’s edition is no exception. We have another great newsletter, full of good stuff, with something for everyone:
- Don’t miss Peter’s habitat article showing a significant stamp-funded project that gives some idea of what we can do when pooling your WWA funds with duck stamp and landowner resources. And WWA also helped a little with the duck stamp funded project at Mead Wildlife Area, described in an article by the DNR’s Craig Ziolkowski.
- An exciting addition to the EXPO, our decoy carving contest is being added to the offerings. Even if you’re not a carver, you will appreciate the spectacular decoys on display.
- With our first Open Water Zone season in the bag, if you hunted that zone, be sure to complete the linked survey that will help the DNR manage the resource better.
- Stuttgart hosted three Wisconsin duck callers out of a field of 56 entrants! How did the state come to be so well-represented at the international competition?
- “[Un]Blinding you with Science” (a music reference probably lost on many). Two articles by Ph.Ds this month…. Dumbed down for the rest of us: More on duck parasites (I can’t seem to get enough!), and where should we spend our limited wetland restoration funds?
- And you might miss new WWA sponsor Vortex’s appearance on our sponsor page…. More on this innovative sponsorship approach in the next newsletter.
And more!!!
