WWA’s space at a recent Waterfowl Hunter’s Conference

Earlier this week, nearly a dozen hard-core duck hunters, representing their respective waterfowling organizations, Zoomed together to begin the very first steps in re-booting the now-defunct Wisconsin Waterfowl Hunter’s Conference(WWHC).  Representatives from Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, Delta Waterfowl, UW Stevens Point, DNR, Green Bay Duck Hunters, USF&WS, the outdoors media and several others – including WWA – felt the loss of the conference and vowed to resurrect it.

If you had ever been to that conference, you’d know that it had a great bunch of speakers, topics, and practical waterfowling seminars… but over the years, attendance declined, and ultimately, it could not be sustained.  To the detriment of waterfowlers around the state.

The group that digitally gathered Monday night (who brings the beer to digital meetings?) fully appreciate the potential of such a conference for our state’s waterfowlers, and to a person, they committed to a re-boot in 2021 that would continue to allow waterfowlers, new and old, to celebrate the community and culture of WI waterfowling.

But this will be an upgraded reboot.  We’re looking to address the specific reasons the old conference was not sustainable; and what programming, entertainment, venue, sponsors, location, and timing would be needed to continually attract the wide range of waterfowlers and sponsor groups necessary to make this a success.

There will be a lot more on this in the coming months, but here’s today’s take-away: You can get in on the ground floor to help shape this celebration while building your waterfowling network.

We’d like people to share their talents in:

  • Marketing/communications,
  • Developing topics and coordinating program presenters,
  • Logistics needed to put on a first-class event,
  • Fundraising/sponsor development, and
  • Other areas we haven’t even thought of yet

So do you want to be a part of this dynamic and committed organizing team?
