WWA Welcomes New DNR Secretary Adam Payne

L to R: Executive Director Bruce Ross,  Secretary Payne, President Bruce Urben and Vice President Todd Schaller.

WWA leaders were pleased to spend some time with Secretary Payne just a couple of days ago at his office in Madison.

In this introductory meeting, WWA leaders left the meeting impressed with Secretary Payne’s openness, willingness to learn and dedication to the natural resources of the state.  He’s an angler and hunter (yes, a waterfowler, although it’s been a few years), and he’s committed to making sure the next generation has the same outdoor opportunities he and his family have enjoyed.

Payne was previously County Administrator in Sheboygan County.  Since county government is non-partisan by law, he worked with all officials regardless of political leanings to get things done that were important to those he served – including significant natural resources projects.  He’s hoping that same, non-partisan focus will help him effectively address the important issues now on the DNR’s plate.  In today’s hyper-partisan capital, we’re hoping so, too.

Secretary Payne will formally be taking the reins of the DNR when confirmed by the Senate, presumably in the next couple of weeks.
