Wisconsin Waterfowl Association co-founder Jim Weix recently passed away in Florida at 75 years of age. Jim was not only a founder, but also WWA’s third President and 2nd Vice President. His cohort in founding WWA, Rob Kieckhefer, says, “I followed Jerry, and Jim followed me. His fun sense of humor and glib responses to stupid questions were always perfect.”
A strong leader, “Jim also took care of communications. He was an outdoor writer for the Waukesha newspaper, and he got the WWA monthly newsletter going.”
When Jim rallied state hunters to establish a dove hunting season, he established the Wisconsin Dove Hunters Association, which only had two members: the two of us.” His sense of fun leadership helped WWA continue its growth and impact in the 80s and 90s, according to Rob. “He will be missed.”
Jim’s ability to make a difference with WWA was the result of his commitment to state waterfowling. The future of Wisconsin waterfowling (given the decline of hunting in general) demands a similar commitment from today’s waterfowl hunters. Get involved today by going to WISDUCKS.ORG.
