Les Didier Duck Stamp Original Artwork Auction

Your chance to own this ORIGINAL artwork from WWA’s early history!

You may recall seeing an article from about a year ago on Les Didier, a talented Wisconsin outdoor artist who won a couple of Wisconsin Duck Stamp contests, among other artist accolades.  Les became associated with the early days of WWA through his son, Jim, who served on the founding board of directors for WWA.   Last year, Jim realized there was an opportunity to honor his father’s legacy by donating four ORIGINAL Les Didier paintings to WWA.  Jim wanted to see his Dad’s paintings find a good Wisconsin home.

This Les Didier painting graced the cover of WWA’s winter 1985 magazine

In the process of finding that good Wisconsin home, Jim also wanted to help sustain the future of WWA by directing the proceeds from the painting’s sales into the WWA endowment.  [Our endowment is a fund where the principal fund balance remains protected/unused, and only the interest can be used to support WWA missions.  Endowments are a great tool for sustaining a non-profit organization like WWA, but especially in this era of low interest rates, the principal has to be substantial if it’s going to really help WWA.  So that’s why we were so tickled by Jim’s offer.]

The pandemic slowed down our efforts to sell the paintings, but now we are ready to start.  We have three duck stamp submissions (two of which actually won the state stamp contest) and a fourth painting from which WWA’s first logo was developed.

With this announcement, we are offering the above mentioned “fourth” painting for auction.  The description of the painting from our appraiser is below:

WWA’s original logo

Of course, the “Ducks in flight”  described by the appraiser are green wing teal. And you may notice a resemblance between the painting and the first WWA logo, shown here.

So for the next month, we will be displaying the painting at our events, and taking written or emailed bids on the purchase of the painting through July 15, 2021.
