      Well guys, fantastic progress on the SHC hunting bill this month. Our substitute amendment is currently in drafting and I’ve convinced Rob Stadfsholt to be the author. We briefed Paul Tittl on the strategy to move forward and he is completely on board. We have a plan in pace for more emails to members from the coalition following the barrage of emails from the Hunters Expo. All good stuff

  • July Update:
    • In addition to Joel’s remark’s below, he has had a couple of meeting’s with Stafsholt’s chief of staff to begin developing a reveised draft bill.  Fundamentally, Sen Stafsholt is not inclined to raise fees on all hunters to make the depredation fund solvent in the face of increased SHC damage claims.  In a coalition meeting hosted by George and Joel, the team agreed that the goal is to get a bill to a committee hearing, and if possible a floor vote. The farmers will still support a hunt.  And if the damage account is oversubscribed, the legislature can fix that in the future.  So all supported the re-drafting, which will likely start with the previous version of the bill proposed by Senator Felzkowski last session.

      The state budget wrapped up and legislators are taking a break but I have been working on the draft for the SHC bill with Senator Stafsholt’s staff.

      Strategically we are waiting for the draft to initiate the next round of coalition visits with legislators.

      Senator Stafsholt wants to be involved in the bill draft so we are slightly at his mercy until he gives us direction for the draft
